The designers have created a beautifully grotesque version of Hell and brought this 700 hundred year old literature to life through a completely new medium. If youвІ re just looking for a bit of entertainment from a game and not interested in the recent game releases then I recommend giving this one a go. The game is a lot of fun but you may need to show your Garda ID to purchase this one!

The Action in the game is very fast based and it is a button basher in the truest sense of the phrase. The hordes keep coming and coming and there is a mix of higher and lower demons meaning you really have to make use of the ranged attacks as well as just swinging in hope. Each time you melee a demon you are given the power of absolution or damnation and your choice will not only decide the fate of the unfortunate soul but also your own as you collect either holy or unholy points which allow you to modify and upgrade DanteвІ s abilities. These upgrades improve your arsenal of attacks and the fun ways in which you get to deliver the slaughter! Dante also earns some magic abilities which come in handy when dealing with the more difficult demons. As well as these upgrades you collect relics which also have an impact on the power you wield.

LustвІ being a case in point. The end of level boss Cleopatra, secretes deformed babies with blades for arms from her breasts to assault you! The 18вІ s Certificate is well justified on this one!

The big winners in this game are the graphic designers. Their depiction of hell is at times gruesome and a little gratuitous but also very challenging in terms of the environment created. Spores of demons appear out of the ground so be prepared to have to stick at it to pass through the levels. Quick reflexes are also required to get you through certain sections and at times I did want to fling the controller but there is a certain satisfaction in getting through! The layout of the game also means that you view Dante from a range of angles depending on whether youвІ re in a melee or climbing/swinging your way through a level. This mix does make the game all the more challenging and although you do follow a linear path it doesnвІ t always feel that way. The designers have definitely chosen to push the game certificate to its limit with their depiction of вІ

First off, choosing a 700 year old piece literature isnвІ t the typical source material for a gaming developer but the choice also gave the creators a lot of creative licence to develop a very interesting and definitely adult version of hell. The game features our hero, Dante, who has plunged himself into the depths of Hell to free the tormented soul of his squeeze Beatrice. Unfortunately for Beatrice, she has been condemned to damnation because of DanteвІ s indiscretion with a slave girl while on crusade so he feels a little bit guilty about the whole incident! The plot to save the soul of Beatrice drives the whole game forward and as well as stylish graphics, the music and cut scenes help to achieve the hellish atmosphere.

After spending hours and hours with CODMW2 and Mass Effect 2 jumping into a little hack n slash seemed a perfect choice for some light entertainment. And at first glance DanteвІ s Inferno is a typical sword, or in this case scythe wielding type of game, but it also brings a lot more to keep you in the seat.
